Day 1: Kaleo/Paleo/Whole 9/Plant Based Diet Experiment!!
A few years ago I switched to a plant based diet because of
my ridiculous out-of-whack hormones. Usually I’ll get migraines before, during,
or after my period…or all three! While switching to a plant based diet has
lessened the severity, I still get migraines every month. I have the kind of
migraines where pain medications cannot even touch them. If they get super
painful I’ll take a single ibuprofen, otherwise I just lie around and convince
myself that I have a brain tumor, or am experiencing an aneurism!
Since I do follow a plant based diet, veggies, grains, and
legumes are my staples. I’ve considered eliminating both grains and legumes…I
think I’ve lost itJ
When comparing an abstainer or moderator personality, I’m fully an abstainer. I
don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older, or perhaps the season I’m in, but
I’m not in the frame of mind of doing this cold turkey! Maybe I know that giving up grains and
legumes isn’t a legitimate lifestyle change and that it’s something I can’t
maintain the rest of my existence, but living with migraines is also quite
inconceivable for me as well; and so, always the fork in the road.
So this is where I’m at; I’m not completely eliminating
grains and legumes, but cutting them back (mostly grains) to about 1 meal per
day. In addition to limiting grains and legumes, I’m also eliminating added
sugars of any kind. We’ll see where this gets me in a month!
This is what I ate today:
Breakfast: Sprouted whole-wheat bagel with roughly 2
tbsp Earth Balance/1 tbsp organic
coconut oil/2 cups black coffee/30oz of water with 2+tbsp organic chia seeds.
Snack: Banana
Lunch: Tomato, cucumber, sweet yellow onion salad
topped with 1 whole avocado.
Dinner: Spaghetti squash with sautéed onions, garlic,
tomatoes, and asparagus.
